Newsletter-27-2023
From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to week 7!
Slade Point State School is always focused on improving communication with parents/carers and staff. Every day at school is busy and full of learning opportunities. We also want to keep all of our students safe.
Road Safety is also supported at school. All students need to wear bike helmets if they are riding to school. Please help all students to be safe on the roads by supporting this very important safety message.
Please use the main pedestrian crossing in front of the school at all times and abide by the road signs for speed limits.
Crossing Pheasant Street in the afternoons can be very dangerous. Please remind your child to ask a staff member at the pick-up gates to help them. If parents and carers are parked across from the school on Pheasant Street, please walk across the road to collect your child. As mentioned, staff can assist your child, especially if you have small children in the car.
Please check in with your child’s teacher at the pick-up gates. Teachers are always available to confirm dates or times for the various activities that your child may be involved in. Notes that are sent home will have dates, days and payment details on them, as well as the times for various activities.
There is always a member of the leadership team on duty in the UCA from 8 am each morning. Parents, carers and the community are also invited to check with this person about dates, times and organisational details for any school activity.
This coming Monday 28th August at 8:45 am, all parents, community and carers are invited to a special parade to thank our very special support staff and cleaners for all that they do for the students, staff and school. Please join us in the hall. They will be receiving some very special surprises. It is also Speech Pathology Week. Our Speech Language Pathologist is Mrs Jodie Quayle. We will also be thanking her for her work in the school.
Uncle Patrick is back to complete the dance he taught our Year 5 and Year 6 students at the start of the year. He is working with the students on Mondays at 9 am and the dates are listed below: - (this will entail leaving parade a little bit earlier, from 9 am).

We are seeking Prep students for 2024. You are invited to Slade Point State School’s getting to know you sessions or they are better known as READY SET PREP.

PSHS Scholarships 2024: It is exciting to inform all parents and carers of our year 6 students that I have already received a number of scholarship applications. I am strongly supporting the partnership work that Slade Point and Pioneer High School have been establishing around scholarships and the extension program “Leap into Pioneer”- As a recipient of a Scholarship, this student is entitled to:
- $200 credit per year on the student account for 3 years (Years 7-9)
-One-off $200 per LOWES VOUCHER for School Uniforms.
- Free entry into national Academic Competitions.
-Name on the School’s Scholarship Honour Roll.
- Entry into the Schools Learning Excellence at Pioneer (LEAP) Enrichment program.
Please return your Scholarship Application to the school office by next Tuesday.
Please note that our short PBL Parade will be held every Wednesday morning at 8:30 am. Our key message this week is reminding students about the school expectation:
BE RESPECTFUL- please support all staff at the school and remind your child to always follow instructions. Students are forgetting that at the end of play they need to line up and show they can come in off the playground.
During week 7 and on Wednesday 23rd August we will be conducting our Book Week Parade. The 2023 theme is: READ GROW INSPIRE. This will be in the hall at 9 am. All parents, community and carers are welcome to attend. Please enter the hall via our Pheasant Street Gate. Children are being asked to dress as their favourite book character and also bring their book to hold during the parade. Once again, we will be working in partnership with Pioneer State High School as some of our previous students will be returning to Slade Point to assist with the parade.
Fiona Forrest is bringing over her Leadership Pride students. Children will meet at the UCA at 8:45 am take their school bags to class and then assemble in the hall by 9 am. There will be prizes and judging from 10:00 am. Parents, community members and carers are invited to dress up as well. There will be an adult prize for the best dressed book character. We will have reading activities in the lower school classes. The Leadership Pride students will read with the students in Prep, Prep-1, Year 1, and Year 2.
Please support the P & C Father’s Day Stall on Wednesday 30th August. All money must be handed to the classroom teacher (preferably in a named envelope). The P & C will prepare a timetable for the classes to visit the stall.
All parents, carers and the community are invited to all activities on Culture Day. Please bring a plate of food to share on the day. Children are all encouraged to dress up in a costume from their country. Please support our annual Culture Day on Thursday 31st August. Gardening
Thanks to Lily from Bunnings who came along to the school on Tuesday to plant some beautiful flowers in a new garden outside the P/1B classroom. Lily helped the children build a garden bed and talked to them about looking after plants.
A big thank you to Lily and Bunnings for the donation of portable garden, plants, soil and watering cans. We loved gardening with you Lily.

Tree Day
Last Thursday was Tree Day and it was very fun for the little kids and us. There was lots of trees at the forest and they all had signs saying what species of tree they were. Grade 6 students brought their iPads to the forest and took photos of the kids (Preps) looking for evidence of life, creatures with legs etc. Students had to take a notebook and partner with a prep student and record whatever we found.
The alarm went off and we had a fire drill, but now back to tree day - It is all about teaching the Preppies that it is not OK to harm nature in anyway as nature is where the animal have homes. Littering and chopping down tress is not OK either as that is killing nature. We need to remember to look after nature for future generations.

P and C News
The P & C is able to supply items for the Father's day stall with a very small budget...BUT we rely on a lot of donations for this also. We love to have a great range of gifts for this day.
Unfortunately we (P & C members) are having to be the main donaters of items for this stall. We love donating but we would love more donations from our school community which would help the wonderful P & C Father's Day stall out.
Maybe its a ......
- Box of chocolates or individually wrapped lollies
- Coolers - do you work for somebody with an abundance of these?
- Key chains
- Pens
It could be items we can use like sticky tape, brown paper bags etc. also.
We understand that times are tough but any donation is appreciated. Please drop off at Tuckshop. We will appreciate your support with this.
Thank you
Father's Day Reminder: $10 limit per child for the gift. Money is to be in an envelope marked with name and grade and how much money inside. Please give to their tacher in the morning of the stall.
Irish Dancing
