From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to week 2!
It has been a lovely return to school. I am very excited to announce that I will be continuing in the role of Acting Principal.
Thank you all for supporting your child’s classroom teacher as we celebrated World Teachers Day on Monday in the hall. It was a lovely morning and a very special way to show our gratitude and respect for all of our teachers.
I would like to acknowledge our MOB students. They will perform on Saturday 14th October. Slade Point are up first and will need to arrive at 8am to perform at 9am.
Thank you to the Port of Mackay Rotary Club for their collaboration with Eat Up to prepare sandwiches for our students. Our first delivery of sandwiches came on Friday. Mrs Ikupu and Mrs Beros were very happy as they have been making sandwiches for our students. Aunty Vik has also helped.
I am continuing the following reminders about our PBL expectations for week 2.
Being a learner is one of our school expectations. Term 4 is a report card term. Please support your child’s teacher by reminding your child to always listen to feedback and do their best with learning.
Attending school every day is very important for learning. Please support your child’s learning by having them at school every day.
This is a continued reminder for behaviour. During this week, in term 4 and in week 2, our students and staff will be reviewing our behaviour expectations. Please help support all the staff at Slade Point and remind your child about being safe. We keep our hands and feet to ourselves at Slade Point State School. When children are being ‘playful’ with each other, this can cause accidents to happen. We have had children being hurt when peers might give them a ‘playful push’. This is not safe behaviour and, as mentioned, causes accidents to happen. Thank you to all students who display safe and respectful behaviour.
Chappy Peter and Aunty Wave have started to organise options for book packs in 2024. With Chappy Lisa no longer at our school and our strong connection with the Multicultural Lions Club still in place, our school will still be supporting book packs and stationary supplies in 2024.
We are confirming what this will look like over the next few weeks. Please watch this space for more updates. There will be Book Packs available for Preps and we are organising some vouchers for older grades from Office Works Mackay. A price for the Book Pack and ordering processes for the vouchers /packs will be organised over the next few weeks.
We will be involved in a number of other events and activities over the next 10 weeks. Year 5 parents please note some updates around Leadership applications below. A note will be forwarded shortly.
Congratulations to Miss Jade and the Wakakirri 2023 Dance Team. They have received some feedback from the judges.
“Congratulations for their amazing story-dance performance!”
Wakakirri has sent a very special appreciation message to every single teacher who has put in countless hours of extra work to get their video performance submitted this year. Miss Jade is this teacher for our school.
Thank you, Miss Jade!!!!! We cannot thank you enough for your contributions in helping make this experience for our students exceptionally memorable.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Miss Jade will be looking out for an email from Wakakirri on 18th October. This is when the results for each school will be emailed to inform them about State and National Awards.
Please note these reminders.

My New Gallery
Hello everyone, as most of you may know, I am leaving the building as of Monday 16th October!
I would like to take this opportunity to express my hearfelt gratitude and say a huge thank you to staff, parents and students I have had the privlege of working with over the past 6 + years here at Sladey. I have so many interesting conversations, funny & special times to reflect back on. It's been an honour and the memories I will cherish!
Although I feel a little sad to be moving on, (retiring) I am looking foward to ticking off some bucket list items and spending more quality time with my extended blended family.
