Newsletter 34 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to week 4!
It was an extremely busy week 3. We are now moving into another busy week 4.
Already we are getting ready to plan our transition into the 2024 school year. To that end, a form will be sent out to all families to indicate if your child or children will be returning next year. The earlier it is received, the earlier we can complete our planning for next year. Similarly, if you know of any families who are looking to enrol their child at Slade Point State School, please urge them to contact us sooner rather than later.
Our students have been working on being safe and being respectful at school. This is part of our whole of school PBL Program. Parents, carers and community are reminded to always show respect for students and staff in our school grounds. We always use kind words when we speak to students and staff.
The P and C are very excited about their upcoming Halloween Disco on Friday the 3rd of November. The disco starts at 5:30 pm and concludes at 7:00 pm. The cost is $2 per student. Please come dressed up for Halloween and all students are to stay in the hall. There is a lucky draw for all student when they pay their $2.
Congratulations to Miss Jade and the Wakakirri Dance Group received a highly commended!! Miss Jade and the Group worked for a lot of hours on this story.

"CHANGE”
I would like to thank Uncle Patrick, Miss Jade, staff, community, parents, carers and most importantly our Awakening Spirits Dancers for all of their hard work and support on Wednesday evening at the MECC.
It was a pleasure to thank Uncle Patrick on parade for his support and also Miss Jade.
We are very excited about the Book Fair. This will be held in the library from Monday 30th October to Friday 3rd November. Students are reminded not to bring money unless it is in a named envelope. Please give all money to your teacher for safe keeping and please do not keep money in school bags.
Toys, rubbers and little trinkets from the Book Fair are encouraged to be taken home for safe keeping and given to your teacher for the day. Opening Hours 8:00 to 8:30 am and 2:50 pm to 3:30 pm. EFTPOS is available.
The Year 6 Graduation Celebration will be held at the Surf Club. The event is scheduled for Wednesday 6th December. The cost is $17.50 and it needs to be paid in cash. Please pay at the office and use the envelopes near the Green Box. Please put your money in the Green Box.
During this week, in term 4 and in week 3 and 4, our students and staff will be reviewing our behaviour expectations. Be Safe is a major reminder for week 4. Hands, feet and objects to yourself. Please help support all the staff at Slade Point and remind your child about being respectful.
- Please listen to adults and follow instructions in a calm and respectful way;
- Please use kind words and facial expressions when playing with friends;
- Listening on parade is very important. We always follow the 5 L’s for respectful behaviour – Listen, Look, Lips, Lap, legs;
- Students continue to talk and turn their backs on staff who are trying to give clear instructions and organise safe transitions.
Chappy Peter and Aunty Wave have started to organise options for book packs in 2024. With Chappy Lisa no longer at our school and our strong connection with the Multicultural Lions Club still in place, our school will still be supporting book packs and stationary supplies in 2024. I would also like to acknowledge the work of Mrs Shaw in the book pack area.
Every Prep student will receive a book pack this year. A wonderful gift to add to the hat they will receive from P and C. Prep Book Packs for 2024 will be available from Aunty Wave and Chappy Peter during our Transition Day in week 9. Thank you to Multicultural Lions Club for their support.
Stationary Vouchers will also be available for our Year 1 to Year 6 students. They will be ordered via a note that will come home shortly from Aunty Wave and Chappy Peter. The Stationary Vouchers can be collected in week 10 for those families who return the note.
We will be involved in a number of other events and activities over the next 10 weeks. Year 5 parents please note some updates around Leadership applications below. A note will be forwarded shortly.
Please note these reminders.
