Principal's Desk
Welcome to week 6!
Congratulations to all of our students and families for trying hard to attend school every day. It is important to try and come to school at all times. We only have a few weeks to go before it will be the end of the year. With Christmas fast approaching I would like to remind all children about not putting Candy Canes into their Christmas Cards. Candy Canes are lollies and it is recommended they stay at home.
Great news for 2024. Our new year 2-3 Playground is scheduled to start being built on the 18th March 2024.
On 6 July 2023, Minister Grace announced that all state school students will be required to keep their mobile phones ‘away for the day’ from the beginning of Term 1 2024. This announcement also extends to wearable devices like smartwatches. More information about phones and wearable devices will be communicated to parents, carers, students and community early in 2024. We already have a great system in place at Slade Point for Phones. Students are already leaving their phones in the office for safe keeping.
We are very proud to offer some stationary vouchers from Office Works Mackay to the value of $20. Thank you to Chappy Peter and Zara Germon for working on this for our students.
Stationary Vouchers will also be available for our Year 1 to Year 6 students. Please be quick to hand your note back, as there are only 100 vouchers available.
The vouchers will be ordered via a note that will come home shortly from Aunty Wave and Chappy Peter. The Stationary Vouchers can be collected in week 10 for those families who return the note.
Thank you to Zara Germon for also donating a $100 voucher to go to the P and C for the Christmas Wheel Raffle.
Further stationary donations have been organised through Stationary Aid LTD. Alison Schutt is the co-founder of this organisation and they are organising Prep Book Packs for 2024. All Prep students will receive a book pack and a hat from the P and C.
Prep Book Packs for 2024 will be available from Aunty Wave and Chappy Peter during our Transition Day in week 9. Thank you to Multicultural Lions Club for their support.
Already we are getting ready to plan our transition into the 2024 school year. To that end, a form will be sent out to all families to indicate if your child or children will be returning next year. The earlier it is received, the earlier we can complete our planning for next year. Similarly, if you know of any families who are looking to enrol their child at Slade Point State School, please urge them to contact us sooner rather than later.
Thank you to Mrs Henderson and Miss Menzies who conducted the Instrumental Parent Information Afternoonon Tuesday 7th November.
Thank you also to the P and C who organised the Halloween Disco on Friday the 3rd of November. It was a great success with lots of dancing. Parents, community and students enjoyed the evening of fun. Thank you to Miss Hodson and Miss Causon for helping with the dancing and supervision. Please remember that our school is an alcohol and smoke free zone.
We are very excited to announce that the Book Fair has been another success story for Mrs Bishop and her helpers. Thank you to all of our school community and students who supported the Book Fair.
Our last Community Breakfast for 2023 was held on Tuesday 7th November at 7:15 am. Thank you to Chappy Peter, Aunty Vik and Aunty Waveney for setting up the breakfast.
