Principals Desk
Welcome to Week 5!
Principal messages
Thank you to Adrienne Smith who has kindly sourced and donated two Scooters. One of these will go to the student who has the highest attendance in Term 3. We are still confirming how the 2nd scooter will be used. Another Chappy Raffle may be a possibility.
Please make sure you order early for Tuckshop on Sports Day. The order forms can be collected from the Tuckshop.
Miss Roberts will be organising 200 m heats at lunch time on Tuesday 22nd May. This is to allow for our Sports Day to run more smoothly.
I would like to extend a massive congratulations to our P and C for organising “Do it for Dolly”. It was such a lovely day. Amanda Duncan also donated her time with face painting and would like to offer more face painting on Sports Day. Thank you, Amanda, for painting some beautiful butterflies. A permission note will come out about the face painting for Sports Day.
Report Cards will be handed out in the last week of school on Wednesday June 19th.
A special Under 8’s Morning is being planned for Wednesday June 19th. This will be collaboration with Mackay Children and Family Centre. Watch this space for more information.
Please continue to support our Book Fair in the library from 13th May to 17th May. There will be no before school reading for this period, while Mrs Bishop works on the Book Fair. All money for the book fair is to be kept in a named envelope or plastic zip lock bag. Toys, rubbers and trinkets from the Book Fair must be taken home at the end of the day or purchased only in the afternoon. These things are valuable and risk being lost at school. Thank you to all parents and carers for your support and understanding around this important message.
On Tuesday 21st May, Year 6 selected students will attend Pioneer High School for “Leap into Pioneer”. Students will need to meet Mrs Adjrun at 8:30 am Pioneer High School and will return to school in a taxi by 11:15 am.
On behalf of Slade Point State Primary School, I would like to thank Donna Jackson who is the Senior Project Officer for Pioneer Catchment & Landcare Group Inc. Donna has organised this wonderful opportunity for our year 3 class and our year 2-3 class.
Thank you to Miss Thorpe and Miss Hodson who will be working with Pioneer Catchment and Landcare. This will take place on the 17th June.
I would like to acknowledge all of the support that Uncle Patrick gives to our school. He has confirmed further dance dates with Slade Point State School.
- 22nd May - Week 6
- 5th June - Week 8
- 19th June - Week 10
Reconcile Life and JC Action Sports are bringing “Good Ways Campaign”, to the Mackay and Regional schools again this May, during DFV month. It is a 1-hour performance with a half pipe on the back of a truck with professional scooter and BMX riders combining their tricks. Reconcile Life gives a positive message, targeting anti-bulling and safe actions, joining a professional rapper to the mix.
There is no cost to the school as Daly Bay Coal Terminal and Daly Bay Infrastructure have donated funds towards the campaign. A great opportunity for our year 4,5 and 6 students.
Student Council updates include also some funding for the basketball hoops in the hall. As well as seating for the PCYC Bus children and tickets for the year 6 Graduation. The students are also organising a roster for Peace Patrol in the Prep – 1 Playground at first break. Some umpires for year 2-3 soccer at first break and tuckshop helpers for Miss Mary. All tuckshop helpers are reminded this is a voluntary role and Miss Mary can’t give out ice blocks to volunteers. However, she can encourage all students to purchase an ice block on Friday afternoon for 50 cents.
Sports Day is now confirmed-
Friday 24th May - Sports Day is now confirmed, field events and long-distance- 800 m, 23rd May (field events are usually a couple of days before Sports Day). Please note that our younger year levels will participate in fun activities and a sprint. This program has not been altered or changed from previous years and continues to be an excellent way to conduct our Whole of School Sports Day. All parents and community are invited to watch on the 23rd and 24th of May. Unfortunately the 200 m heats on Tuesday at lunch time do not allow for this.
Thank you to all of our wonderful students who always show that they can be respectful in the playground. It was very pleasing to congratulate all of the students who received 25 tokens and 50 and 75 badges on Parade at the start of the week.
Our Slade Point State School PBL message for the next 2 weeks –Be Respectful. It is important that children follow instructions from all staff in our school.

Instrumental Fan Fare
Instrumental Fanfare 2024
A big congratulations to Miss Menzies and the nine talented members of our string ensemble who participated in Instrumental Fanfare this week held at Northern Beaches State High School. The group played their best and were awarded a silver for their efforts! The ensemble played three pieces and performed for the adjudicator in a section with other Mackay primary school string groups. It’s always a bit nerve-racking but a great experience for all involved. Thank you to the parents who came along to support. See you at the Eisteddfod in term 3!
