Principal messages
Please make sure you order early for Tuckshop on Sports Day. The order forms can be collected from the Tuckshop.
Sports Day May 24th.
Sports Day is now confirmed, field events and long-distance- 800 m, 23rd May (field events are usually a couple of days before Sports Day).
Please note that our younger year levels will participate in fun activities and a sprint. This program has not been altered or changed from previous years and continues to be an excellent way to conduct our Whole of School Sports Day. All parents and community are invited to watch on the 23rd and 24th of May. Unfortunately, the 200 m heats on Wednesday at lunch time do not allow for this.
Miss Roberts will be organising 200 m heats at lunch time on Wednesday 23rd May. This is to allow for our Sports Day to run more smoothly. It will also cater for Leap into Pioneer students.
Please be on time for Sports Day. Please check Face Book for reminders.
Some key times are: - 8:30 am start – war cries, 9 am sprints, 10:00 am kindy kids run, 10:30 am break for lunch in the UCA, 11:00 am Junior School rotations start, 11:00 am Senior School rotations, 12:30 pm lunch is under the tents; 1:00 pm ball games; 2:20 pm presentations on the oval and pack up.
Congratulations to all of our sports representatives and our ensemble achieved a silver award at Fan Fare.
Report Cards will be handed out in the last week of school on Wednesday June 19th.
A special Under 8’s Morning is being planned for Wednesday June 19th. This will be collaboration with Mackay Children and Family Centre. Watch this space for more information.

The Arts
What’s been happening in The Arts at Slade Point – Term 2
Artist in Residence What a big term it has been in The Arts. We have been fortunate to have Jade Ford, Slade Point parent and dance instructor, to come and be our “Artist in Residence”. For the last six weeks Jade has taught a dance routine to each class, to a song representing a different culture. The dances range from Hip Hop to Samba and have been a lot of fun to learn. While the dances will be performed this term as part of the students’ Dance assessment, they will also do the dances performed at this year’s Culture Day concert next term. A big thank you to Miss Jade for sharing her expertise with us!
Instrumental Music This term both our beginner group and our string ensemble have made progress in their playing. The achievement of a Silver Award at the recent Instrumental Fanfare has been a real encouragement to the ensemble players! We look forward to the next opportunity to hone our performance skills at the Mackay Eisteddfod in Term 3. In other exciting news, we have had two students accepted to participate in Instrumental Music Camp next month. Congratulations to Maddison Ford and Melissa Greensill who will take up the opportunity to spend intensive time building on their playing skills as well as meeting other budding musicians from around Mackay. We wish them a fantastic time on camp.
Choir Choir rehearses on a Tuesday lunchtime and is open to any student from year two to six. We have performed at school events such as the ANZAC day ceremony and the Super Playgroup morning. We are currently working on two songs by Australian composers, “Where the Sky Meets the Sea’ and ‘Gecko’ to be performed at the Mackay Eisteddfod. Any students interested in joining the choir should speak with Mrs Henderson.
