Principal's News
Welcome to Week 10
Principal messages
As we come closer to our well-earned June and July break, I would like to thank staff, students, parents and all the wonderful Slade Point community for their support during term two. Please enjoy your well-earned break.
Term three promises to be equally exciting. Slade Point State School continues to offer endless academic, sporting and cultural opportunities for all students.
Lost Property Please remind your child to collect any lost jumpers, lunch boxes or water bottles from under A Block today and Friday. A number of items are not named. All lost property (with no name) that is left at school on Friday will be donated to Lifeline over the break. Please ensure you check the lost property trolley today or Friday.
Afternoon Tunes will be held on Tuesday 30th July. We will have choir and ensemble perform. Our beginner strings will perform again and they have been entered into the beginner sections section of the Eisteddfod. Due to the MECC undergoing repairs and Eisteddfod being held in different venues, the beginner section this year will likely be on the Sunday, but choir and senior ensemble will be on a week day. Dates are still TBC but are between 7th and 13th August.
At Slade Point we are always looking for ways to provide our students with opportunities that will enrich their literacy development. This year we have organised for students from prep to year 6 to attend the Whitsunday Voices Literacy Festival during week 1 of term 3.
As places for the festival are limited students will be allocated a seat on a first in bases. Therefore, the earlier your child/ren return the form and pay the invoice the more likely they will be able to attend.
Students will be attending the following sessions with staff supervising and attending from Slade Point State School:
Year 3 and 4 James Foley 9:15am 25 places
James Foley will have everyone on their feet! You may know his multi-award-winning picture book Stellarphant, or his other graphic novels Brobot, Dungzilla, Gastronauts and Chickensaurus. His latest graphic novel series, Secret Agent Mole, follows Max Mole, Helena Hippo, and June Bug, for whom no mission is too dangerous, or ridiculous!
In his hilarious sessions you’ll find out how you too could make the journey from a wannabe to a professional author-illustrator... in just 3452 easy steps! As an ambassador for Books in Homes and Room to Read, James’ passion and dedication to children’s literature is evident in both his books and high-energy delivery.
Year 5 and 6 Nick Earls 12:15pm 25 places
Nick Earls is an international best-selling author of 28 books for adults, teenagers and children. Five of his books have been adapted into stage plays and two into feature films. His most recent book is the novel Empires. In his entertaining and energetic session for middle grades, Nick poses the questions…Where do our words come from? Why do we spell them the way we do? Why is English the weird and complicated language it is? This talk introduces Lexi and Al from Nicks’ Word Hunters books and gives students the tools to be word hunters themselves with a new way of thinking about language and how it works, including the evolution of language and the factors behind it.
We are continuing to provide excellent opportunities for your child at Slade Point. Prep to Year 2 students will be watching a puppet show about Dinosaurs on the Thursday 11th July. Some specific timeslots for the show are below: -
Date: Thursday 11th July
1st Show is at 10:00 – 10:45 am
2nd Show is at 11:30 am -12:15 pm
3rd Show is at 12:15 to 1:00pm
A Dinosaur Adventure is a Storytime that takes the audience back 95 million years into
the past. Starting with a storybook reading, the audience members then make a magical
wish which transports them to the late Cretaceous period where they meet several baby
dinosaurs. They must quickly return to the present before the Mummy dinosaurs catch
them and upon their return, the audience learn about tools used by palaeontologists’ and
see real fossils up close.
Some special reminders and thank you mentions.
– NO TUCKSHOP on the last Friday of Week 10. Limited menu for Wednesday and Thursday is the Show Holiday.
-Thank you to the P and C for our chocolate or milo milk drinks (with cream and sprinkles and lactose milk available). A big shout out to Jessie for all of your help in the tuckshop for the P and C. Our NAIDOC celebration date is now going to be in the first week of school term three. The date is Tuesday 9th July. Mrs Adjrun will be preparing a timetable for all community, parents and carers to attend. This change is due to a longer school year in 2024 and NAIDOC dates aligning with term three.
Report Cards will be handed out in the last week of school on Wednesday, June 19th.
Unfortunately, Pioneer Catchments Landcare lessons have been postponed. We will definitely be working with Donna to re-book in term 3.
I would also like to acknowledge Leah Scoble who will also be running some activities in the school on 17th June. Leah works with Wetland Walkabout, and it is exciting that she is also going to be working with our year 2, year 3 and year 2-3 classes.
I would like to acknowledge all the support that Uncle Patrick gives to our school. He has confirmed further dance dates with Slade Point State School. Uncle Patrick will be working in the school on his final 19th June dance activity for term 2.

Instrumental Music Camp 2024.
Two year 6 students, Melissa Greensill and Maddison Ford recently participated in Instrumental Music Camp at Seaforth Pines. About 80 year 6 students from around Mackay attended the four day camp and worked incredibly hard on challenging repertoire. The girls listed meeting new friends and playing hard songs as among the highlights. A big thanks to Miss Menzies for sacrificing four days without coffee to attend!
Sladey Supermarket
Over this last Term the students here at school have had the opportunity to cash-in their tokens for Sladey supermarket dollars. This is what some of them have brought from the supermarket.
