Welcome to Week 10!

Principal messages

It has been a very busy term three. Term four promises to be just as exciting.

Our PBL Expectation continues in week 10 – Be a Learner

Children will be completing assessment and catching up on their work for the term. I would like to thank all parents for supporting school attendance in the last week of school. It is appreciated.

Thank you to our amazing P and C for providing ice blocks on our upcoming Sladey Celebration Day.

Prep interviews have started. Please contact the office if you need prep interview. The next round of interviews is on Friday 13th September. 

Prep Parent Information Session - Thursday 14th November 9:00-9:30. Prep students for 2025 are invited to the orientation morning on November 26th at 8:45-9:45 am. Meet in the UCA with your parents and go to your new classroom.

*All 2024 Year 6 students who are enrolled to attend Pioneer State High School are invited to a full day of Orientation. PARENTS TO PROVIDE TRANSPORT TO AND FROM PIONEER HIGH SCHOOL

26th November, week 9, all 2024 Year 7 students attend a full day of Orientation at PSHS.

26th November, week 9, all classes at Slade Point State School will have an orientation morning from 8:45 am to 9:45 am. Meeting in the UCA at 8:45 am. Prep students for 2025 are invited.

week 10, 3rd December Canelands and Lagoon, term 4 – Tuesday year 5 and year 6

Save these dates: - Check Facebook posts from the school and P and C. Always ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure about events in the school (dates, times and venue). Check with staff on duty in the mornings at the UCA. Check with staff at the pickup gates each afternoon.

Surf Life Saving

We are having come & try days every Sunday throughout September from 8.45am – 11.00am where nippers and their families will be able to participate in nipper events such as flags, beach sprints, relays, wade races, surf education, as well as a sausage sizzle by the beach. 

Young Engineers

We’ll be running Young Engineers workshops in Mackay during Spring Holidays 17-18 September at CQUniversity Ooralea.

Young Engineers is a fun and interactive STEM based program aimed at school children from Yr1 – Yr9 (with different activities for different age groups).

Treasure Trail

Discover Mackay Treasure Trail

Dates - Saturday, September 14 to Sunday, September 29

Description - There will be 11 mystery locations to discover around the Mackay region and thousands of dollars in prizes up for grabs! Three major prizes will be randomly drawn from teams who complete the whole trail, the first 40 teams to finish will receive an automatic prize – a Discover Mackay gift pack with towel, sunglasses, football rocket and puzzle. We are also giving away a Sarina Sugar Shed hamper for the best dressed team. Each mystery destination has a treasure trail corf lute or poster on display with a QR code on it that they need to scan with their smart phone.

How to complete the treasure trail:

1. Use the clues on the council web page to find each mystery location (www.mackay.qld.gov.au/trail - Note - the clues will be live from Sep 13 and the trail will be open on September 14.

2. Scan the QR code at each location with a smart phone and complete the entry form that pops up, including any questions or challenges

3. Email communications@mackay.qld.gov.au to let us know when you’ve finished the whole trail!
* Note – some locations will require a photo or video to be taken and uploaded to the council website via a smart phone.

Mystery prizes:

There are also daily mystery prizes to be won instantly by finding a council branded treasure trail rock at four of the mystery locations! Be sure to keep an eye out for a small, smooth rock the size of your palm with the council logo listed. If you find a mystery rock, follow the instructions listed on the back to claim your prize!

Registration for the trail is free and is now open via the council website - www.mackay.qld.gov.au/trail. Please note that children need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times while exploring the trail.
