Hat for Learning-name on hats and lunch boxes please
‘Hat for Learning’. All students require a hat at school every day for learning. Learning may include outdoor lessons, e.g., Science, Math, PE lessons. It may also include special school events. The library is also closed at second break, so all students are on the oval and need a hat for Sun Safety. School hats are available at the Tuckshop/Uniform Shop daily from 8-1pm for $20. We are a Sun Safe School at Slade Point.
Please ensure your child’s hat is clearly named. When transitioning to play from the UCA we are encouraging all students to wear their hat and not hold them in their hands. Sometimes hats are dropped while walking and also hats are being swung around and may hit other students.
Thank you to our P and C who have provided hats for all of our Preps!
A friendly reminder to all parents and carers– Please name all of your child's belongings. Toys are not to be brought to school. Earrings that are safe to wear at school are – small studs, small sleepers and a watch (not a smart watch).
All student phones must be delivered to the office at the start of the day and they can be collected at the end of the day. Please do not turn phones on in the school grounds.
Please check the School Prospectus for more details about jewellery and phones at Slade Point state School.

Mrs Lynette Feenaghty will be taking leave for Term One. We are looking forward to her return in Term Two.
Pick up time – Parents please remember to Be Safe at the end of the school day. Signs clearly label the BUS stop – where parents are NOT to park. Also, if you are using the STOP DROP GO in Pheasant Street – stay in your car and move forward as cars leave. Please be mindful of students crossing the road. Thank you for waiting patiently, as the rush passes quickly.
A reminder to not park in the school grounds or in front of the office. The Fire Hydrant Upgrade is continuing in the first week of school.
Cross Country will be coming up quickly. Training will start over the next few weeks and Mrs Geiger will notify all of the community and students when this will begin.
New things Happening in the School and New Ideas: -
The Fire Hydrant upgrade is progressing well. The bitumen road into the hall is a welcomed improvement to the school.
The Deadly Mindera Meekana Program will run in weeks, 3,4,5,6,7. This is a program for Year 6 students. Aunty Waveney will be organising notes and information to go out to parents.
Celebrating our Successes: -
During parades, we are always celebrating the great behaviour displayed by our students. Students are presented with their 25 Certificate, then progress towards their 50,75 and 100 badges by following our PBL's and collecting tokens. Tokens are also traded for use in the Sladey Supermarket.
Facilities and Maintenance: -
We are very excited about the school office upgrade. Our administration building will also be painted over the next few months. We have some more exciting upgrades happening in C Block and A Block.
Celebrating PBL-Positive Behaviour and Learning: -
We always celebrate the wonderful behaviour of our students at Slade Point State School.
Our PBL Expectations and reminders for weeks 1 and 2: -
Be respectful, Be Safe, Be a Learner!
Our Sladey Supermarket continues. Students have an opportunity to go shopping to spend their gift vouchers. These vouchers are a great way to celebrate the wonderful behaviour of our students each day at Slade Point State School.
Save these dates: - Check Facebook posts from the school and P and C. Always ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure about events in the school (dates, times and venue). Check with staff on duty in the mornings at the UCA. Check with staff at the pickup gates each afternoon.

A new process has been put in place by the Department of Education.
1. You will be advised of the excursion via the newsletter, QParents or a paper note (or all of these).
2. If you wish your child to participate, you will need to give written permission to the school. You can either respond the QParents or return the paper form to the class teacher.

4. Once payment is received, your child can participate in the excursion or camp.
This is the new process that the Dept of Education requires. If you only give verbal permission, this is NOT sufficient. If you give written permission but do not pay, your child WILL NOT participate.
P & C News
Welcome back to the Tuckshop for 2025.
Miss Mary is letting you all know that the Tuckshop has a new menu. Lots of things have been deleted because they weren’t popular, or they were too expensive, or they just weren’t suitable for our lovely little Tuckshop.
You can get a copy of the new menu from the Tuckshop any time it is open. Miss Mary returns to the school on Wednesday 29 January for the first week of Term 1.
There are some new menu items available for you to try, and some things are only available on certain days.
Miss Mary wants you to know that the special menu items are cooked by her in the Tuckshop, so we all know they are fresh and full of goodness.
Wednesday is Italian Day with Spaghetti Bolognaise and Mac and Cheese available. Both these meals cost $5 each. The spaghetti contains 5 hidden vegetables – onion, carrot, zucchini, garlic and tomato – so there are lots of healthy ingredients making it tasty and healthy.
The Mac and Cheese contains fresh cow’s milk, cheddar cheese, mustard and parmesan cheese to make it smooth and cheesy and a wonderful comfort food.
Thursday is Mexican Day where children can buy Beef or Chicken Nachos and Beef or Chicken Soft Tacos. The beef mixture contains 5 hidden vegetables – onion, carrot, zucchini, garlic and tomato, plus delicious zesty Mexican spices. The chicken mixture contains fresh chicken breasts marinated in lime juice, chicken stock and the Mexican spices of garlic power, onion powder, oregano, cumin, paprika and cayenne. All meals come with sour cream, salsa and cheddar cheese. You can choose to have them all or choose only the extras you prefer. The tacos also have lettuce and tomato in the taco wraps to make them a delectable filling meal. All these meals cost $6 each.
Friday is Sweet Chilli Chicken and Meatball Sub Day. The sweet chilli chicken tender is oven baked and added to a wrap with your choice of fresh salad items. The meatball sub is made of 3 scrumptious meatballs consisting of a mixture of beef and pork minces, breadcrumbs, onion, parsley, dried chilli flakes (just a pinch), Worcestershire sauce and an egg for binding. The meatballs are served in a hotdog bun with Marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese, wrapped in foil and baked in the oven to melt the cheese over the tasty meatballs. Both these meals are $6.50 each.
There are two ice cream choices this year of Zooper Doopers for $0.50 each and Bulla Vanilla Ice-cream tubs for $2.50 each. Either is a yummy choice on a hot day.
Remember, if you’re having a birthday, Miss Mary can provide Zooper Doopers for the whole class for $15 or iced patty cakes for everyone for $30. Just let Miss Mary know the week before and pay when you order to make your child’s birthday very special.
Thank you everyone who supports our Tuckshop, we really do appreciate your continued patronage. If anyone needs to chat with Miss Mary about anything related to the Tuckshop, please pop in whenever she is there, or telephone the office and they can put you through.
Everyone have a very happy day!

Slade Point Choir and Instrumental
Choir at Slade Point
Any students from grades 2-6 are invited to attend choir at first lunch on a Tuesday in the music room. There are no auditions, just come a long and have fun!
Choir will begin in week 2. For week two and three, students are invited to “come and try” to see if choir is for them. Up to this point no commitment is required. As of week four of term one, students attending choir are expected to come regularly and attend performances.
Choir is a great way to be creative, make friends from different year levels and experience the excitement and challenge of preparing pieces for performance.
See you there!
